Philosophy
Schools are a space for learning. In order to maximize the potential of all, I believe that learners need to be engaged in the work and experience systematic instruction that is accessible in an environment in which they feel safe and valued.
-
Engagement. Children and adults learn best when they have access to the content, feel seen, valued, and heard by their peers and teachers, and have learning environments that are safe and joyful.
-
Systematic instruction. Children and adults learn best when they experience instruction that is systematic, coherent, and sequential. Cognitive science teaches us that foundational structures of learning to decode help us construct meaning from words, sentences, paragraphs, and longer texts.
-
Access. Children and adults learn best when they are allowed to use their strengths and interests as they encounter new and challenging instruction. Using Universal Design for Learning concepts allows us to provide access to rigorous learning for all.
-
Environment. Children and adults learn best when they feel valued, supported, and safe.
These beliefs drive my work as a consultant. I create strong relationships with clients, recognizing that administrators, coaches, teachers and students all come from a different learning place. Our beginning “discovery work” determines where your school is in the learning process, followed by co-creating a professional learning plan that meets the needs of YOUR school.
